Knowing The Truth – Fear God?

I needed to understand the difference. I was completely overwhelmed by fears but God wanted me to fear Him? Through His Word He told me over and over again, “do not fear.” There must be a difference between the fears overwhelming me and fearing God.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me…”

As I was searching for different verses to help me fight my fears, a line was being drawn between the different types of fear. One I was not supposed to have and the other I was. I needed a fear of God not of everything else.

“Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.”
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…”
“Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”

I desired to know this Truth. I needed it simple. I had heard about it my whole life but I didn’t really know it. Teach me.

He has and is teaching me about what it means to fear Him. Over time, as I search in His Word, He is opening my eyes and revealing this Truth to my heart. I am in awe. I am amazed.

He is my audience. I can’t look to anything or anyone else to live this life. Others are a part of the journey but He is the only way. He is number one. His approval and good opinion only, is what matters.

I may not always live like this, but my life is to live in pursuit of…
Loving the Lord my God with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind, and with all my strength. And to love my neighbor as myself.

This is to fear God.

Heavenly Father,

We come to You. Help us to listen to You and You will teach us the fear of You. Thank You that we don’t have to try to figure life out on our own. You are our teacher, gentle and humble in heart. Help us to open our hands and hearts in unconditional surrender to You and we will find rest. Help us know the difference between fear of You and fear of anything else. Help us walk in a lifestyle of obedience before You. Give us wisdom and understanding as we seek to fear You. Through Your Word, open the eyes of our hearts to truth and set us free. Help us love You, Lord, our God with all our hearts, with all our souls, with all our minds, and with all our strength. And help us love our neighbors as ourselves. May we live in awe of You. Amazed. To You be the honor and glory and power forever!

In Jesus Name,

Amen

Praying God’s Word:
“Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.” Psalm 34:11

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

“The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!” Psalm 111:10

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31-32

Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31
